Peer Support for Youth Mental Health

(A training for youth ages 13-18)

Mental health is important at all life stages. The teen years can be particularly stressful, which is why it is vital to build healthy coping strategies. This workshop uses an interactive and conversation-based approach to explore a range of mental health issues and their relationship with beneficial and problematic coping patterns and addictions. Participants will learn how to take care of their own mental health and develop skills for being a support to their peers who are going through mental health challenges.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the meaning of mental health, mental illness, and stigma
  • Describe the role of identity and external pressures on youth mental health
  • Build a toolbox of coping strategies to use when facing stressors
  • Develop self-awareness in emotional regulation and communication skills for peer support
