Clinical supervision is a complex role that requires multiple skill-sets. In this role, the essential skills for supporting supervisees to develop in their clinical work are sometimes overlooked. This workshop focuses on the insights and tools that are necessary for supervisors to support other counsellors to grow in their ability to help others. The balance between supervision, administration, and performance evaluation will be discussed. Participants will also learn the tools for exploring complex issues such as ethics, culture, and power.

  • Identify one’s own style of supervision

Trainer: Michelle Gibson

MSW, RSW

Michelle is a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist, who runs a group practice in Ontario. She is trained in a number of modalities, but focuses her work on IFS, somatic therapy, and EMDR. Michelle uses her expertise to provide support to individuals who have experienced trauma or stress, grief or loss, and those undergoing life transitions or dealing with self-identity and esteem issues. She also provides guidance to other professionals in the helping field.

Michelle is a contributing author to CTRI’s book, Counselling Insights, and teaches at Western University and Lakehead University. She believes in the inherent abilities of individuals and communities to heal themselves, and that this healing can be assisted by a compassionate approach and an emphasis on the mind-body connection. As a trainer, she creates a warm and engaging learning atmosphere, and uses examples and strategies that participants can bring directly into their practice.
