John is a specialist in the field of trauma recovery and has been providing crisis resources to agencies and communities for close to 20 years. He is a Registered Social Worker who holds a Master of Social Work degree. He is a co-author of our Counselling Insights book, and is the author/editor of many of the Crisis & Trauma Resource Institute’s training materials, including the “Critical Incident Group Debriefing” workshop.

Much of John’s career has centred on working with children, youth, adults, and families dealing with crisis and trauma. His work is also informed by his international experiences working with individuals and communities impacted by civil war and ethnic conflicts in Colombia, Albania, and Northern Ireland.

John approaches his work with clients from a strengths-based perspective. He believes that people are their own best experts and already have many of the skills, abilities, and competencies that will assist them in addressing the challenges influencing their lives. Within the group debriefing context – through the use of collaboration and curiosity – John seeks to co-create new possibilities utilizing each person’s internal strengths, skills, and abilities.
